Stafford & District Badminton Tournaments:
Two teams of ones and one team of girls from Years 10 & 11 competed in the recent District Badminton Tournament and enjoyed great success.
The girls’ team of Abbey Harris, Imogen Lambert, Alex Donkin and Megan Winfer won all 4 of their matches against other schools to finish at the top of the table. England player Abbey led the way and was well supported by the other three members of the team who all won either a singles or doubles game to help close out each match.
In the boys’ competition, Alleyne’s A team – Alfie Boote, Taylor Lloyd, Tom Clayton and Ryan McMahon – finished joint second with a record of 3 wins and 2 defeats in matches against other schools. The standard of play was very high and the losses they suffered were often very narrow with games being decided by a single point. The Alleyne’s B team – Joe Kemp, Lucas Kinnersley, Sam Valentine and Max Pinkstone – found the going tougher failing to win any of their matches but they were very competitive and never gave up.
All three teams were fantastic on the night and were a credit to the Academy in the way in which they exhibited such good attitudes towards both winning and losing. Well done to all.
At the end of last term the Year 9 boys’ and girls’ teams played in their District Tournament. The boys’ team of Luke Powell, Luca Hill, Matthew Wright and Neil Dainty came second by the narrowest margin after losing their opening match in the very last game on the last point! After that they rallied to beat the other teams showing great promise for inexperienced players. The girls’ team of Rosie Bowyer, Ellen Bowyer, Jessalyn Fung and Rebekah Collins experienced match play for the first time and although finishing last really enjoyed the competition. Again as with the older students the Year 9 students were a credit to the Academy in their positive attitude towards their matches and opponents.
