School Closure Procedures
School Closure Notification
In the event of a school closure, we aim to keep parents, students, and staff well-informed. Please follow these steps for the latest updates:
- Text messages will be sent to the priority contact.
- Check the Staffordshire County Council website for up-to-date closure information.
- Listen to local radio stations for announcements.
Procedure and Rationale for School Closure
Alleyne’s Academy always strives to stay open. However, in certain exceptional circumstances, such as adverse weather or health and safety issues, the school may need to close to ensure the safety of students and staff. This decision is never taken lightly, and we consider the following factors:
- The state of pathways, steps, and slopes around the school.
- The condition of roads and pathways in the local area.
- The school’s heating, lighting, and water systems.
- Catering availability.
- The availability of public transport and school coaches, and the weather forecast.
Closure Notification Process
If the school closes overnight:
- A text message will be sent to parents/carers and staff, typically by 7:30 a.m.
- An email will be sent out to notify all stakeholders.
- Closure notices will be posted on the school website and the Staffordshire County Council website.
- A recorded message will be placed on the school’s telephone answering system.
- Where possible, a notice will be placed at the school gates.
If the school closes during the school day:
- Students will only be sent home if the Head Teacher is confident they can make the journey safely and access their homes.
- If parents feel it’s unsafe for their child to remain in school, they may collect their child early after contacting reception.
- Text messages and/or emails will be sent to notify parents of any concerns or closure decisions.
- The school will remain in contact with bus companies and taxi services to ensure students can travel home safely.
- Closure notices will be updated on the school website and Staffordshire County Council website.
Other sources of information include local media and radio stations, which often provide up-to-date details about school closures.
For any concerns or questions, please do not hesitate to contact the school.
