The inspection focussed on Business Studies, English, Modern Foreign Languages and Science.
The inspectors also looked at student behaviour, student enrichment and SEND.
They found the following:
Pupils enjoy learning at this school and have good attitudes to learning
Pupils feel safe because bullying is rare
Pupils behave respectfully towards each other and their teachers
The work taught in lessons is interesting and appropriately challenging
Pupils have highly effective pastoral support
Many pupils achieve good examination results including in English, Maths and Science.
The inspection also found that leaders are committed to ensuring that pupils leave the school, not only with good GCSE’s and A-level results, but also as well rounded people.
Pupils have many opportunities to take part in a variety of enrichment activities. From visiting the National Space Museum to sexual health presentations.
Leadership is this area was deemed exceptional. The school provides excellent support for pupils with special educational needs and / or disabilities.
The Sixth Form has improved since the last inspection. Sixth Form students make good progress in their courses. Sixth Form enrichment and extra-curricular activities are varied, from the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme to Young enterprise. These activities equip students with employability skills, leadership skills and team working skills.
