Work Experience: A Step Towards Future Success

At Alleyne’s Academy, we believe in the importance of providing students with opportunities to gain real-world experience. Our Work Experience program offers students the chance to step into the world of work for a week, providing invaluable exposure to professional environments.

Why Work Experience Matters

Work experience provides an invaluable insight into the professional environment, helping students develop key skills such as:

  • Confidence in navigating professional spaces
  • Self-awareness regarding their strengths and areas for improvement
  • Time management and organizational skills
  • Teamwork and communication
  • Problem-solving in real-world situations

Finding Your Work Placement

Students are encouraged to seek their own work placements, with guidance from parents if necessary. These placements may or may not directly align with a student’s intended future career path, as the primary goal is to expose them to a professional working environment.

It’s important that all placements ensure a safe and healthy environment, and ideally, students should be placed with employers who have up-to-date employer liability insurance. All placements will be reviewed to ensure they meet the necessary health, safety, and child protection standards.

What to Expect During the Placement

  • Hours of Work: Students are expected to adhere to the working hours of their chosen placement.
  • Lunch and Travel: Students should arrange their own lunch and transportation to and from the work site.
  • Monitoring Progress: Throughout the week, a member of staff will either visit or call the employer to check on each student’s progress. Employers will also be asked to provide a brief written report at the end of the placement.
  • Work Experience Log: Students will be required to complete a log documenting their activities, experiences, and learnings during the week.
